Sruong Pheavy: Peace Makes Everything Possible

PHNOM PENH: Sroung Pheavy, who won a gold medal for Cambodia during her first-ever SEA Games appearance, credited Cambodia’s current state of peace for her achievements. In a social media post from May 10, 2023, the billiards champion noted the Cambodian people’s solidarity is responsible for the country’s success in hosting this year’s SEA Games.

"Under the umbrella of peace, we can do everything. We should all be proud of what has been achieved,” she said, “Pay homage to the King, respect the leadership, and respect the Cambodian people for the great and historic SEA Games of Cambodia."

Sroung Pheavy praised Cambodia’s leaders for their intelligence in managing and delegating duties to professionals in all areas. She also lauded the writers, composers and singers for producing songs for the games that awaken the Cambodian soul. She echoed one of the lyrics, saying, “Khmer, do not forget our history. We were once a great Khmer empire, united."

The billiards gold medalist went on to say that all Cambodian athletes are capable of competing internationally and that she is moved by the overwhelming support of Cambodian sports fans.

Cambodian billiard player Sruong Pheavy won a gold medal in the Women’s 3-Cushion Carom Singles after defeating Vietnamese opponent Hong Yen Nhi Nguyen 25-20 at Aeon Mall Sen Sok on the evening of May 8.
